Between 16 and 20 October 2023, entomologists from around the globe gathered in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, for the XII European Congress of Entomology (ECE 2023). The event, hosted in the Cultural and Conference Center of Heraklion, featured lectures from international experts, numerous symposia, oral and poster sessions, as well as satellite seminars and various exhibition booths.
“The world of entomology faces many problems with the increasing threat of climate change, damaging vector-borne diseases, biodiversity loss, and the need to feed an expanding world population. Our goal is to gather scientists from around the globe and provide a unique opportunity to exchange information and to communicate research results on a wide range of topics.“ – Emmanouil Roditakis, Stefanos Andreadis (ECE2023 Congress Chairs)
The audience of the congress consisted of researchers and academics from a diverse range of entomology-related fields, as well as policy-makers, field agronomists, crop protection experts, medical practitioners, engineers, social scientists, and artists. In addition, the congress provided a suitable networking environment for interaction between participants, establishing the starting point for future collaborations and innovations in entomology.
Representatives of Safeguard’s partner Pensoft Publishers took an active part in the event with an exhibition table, where attendees could learn more about Safeguard’s mission, objectives, and results and receive further information from the project’s one-pager and policy brief. Along with Safeguard, Pensoft also presented the H2020 project B-GOOD, which has the overall goal of providing guidance for beekeepers and helping them make better and more informed decisions.
