Last month, Safeguard’s mission to reverse pollinator declines went beyond Europe’s borders, landing at the Sino-EU symposium on pollinator monitoring in Nanchong, China. The event was held between 16 and 17 May 2024 and jointly organised by the Nanchong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the School of Life Sciences of China West Normal University. The symposium meeting gathered ecological agriculture experts from Chinese and European universities and representatives of foreign entrepreneurs.
During the event, Deputy Mayor Ouyang Mei stated that Nanchong is actively promoting the development of green products in line with the overarching goals of ‘building a green ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River’ and ‘establishing a higher-level Tianfu granary in the new era’. Nanchong hopes to strengthen exchanges with scientific research teams and entrepreneurs from various European countries and continue to carry out in-depth cooperation in ecological agriculture and the biochemical industry.
Among the participants of the event were Safeguard experts from the University of Würzburg, the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research, the University of Mons, and the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences. Partners committed to better promoting and publicising Nanchong, inviting more friends and businesspeople to visit, deepening their understanding of Nanchong, seeking practical cooperation, sharing development opportunities, and creating a better future together.
This exchange between European and Chinese scientists is a great step for future cooperation in pollinator research and conservation.
