Safeguard partner, IUCN, invites you to the hybrid workshop “From Plans to Action: Operational tools for EU Pollinator Recovery”

Date: 20 November 2025
Time: 9:30-14:00 (CET)
Location: Centre Albert Borschette in Brussels, and online
Thematic Priority: The Pollinators Action Plans – Strategic Instruments to safeguard EU Biodiversity and support the delivery of the EU Environmental objectives

The workshop officially launches the implementation phase of the three EU Species Action Plans for threatened pollinators. It aims to present the Action Plans as operational tools for protecting and restoring threatened pollinator populations, highlight the plans’ contribution to EU environmental objectives, and create a space for dialogue and collaboration between experts, institutions and practitioners.

The programme is divided into two sessions:

  • From Diagnosis to Action: Structure, Priorities, and Expected Impact” (45 minutes): A presentation intended to clarify the scope, structure, and implementation roadmap of the Pollinator Action Plans and to position them as strategic instruments for advancing pollinator recovery efforts. Additionally, it aims to identify and discuss synergies across the three Pollinator Action Plans: areas of shared focus and complementary actions.
  • “Driving Implementation: What Will It Take to Protect Europe’s Pollinators?” (60 minutes): A panel discussion encouraging representatives of various stakeholder groups to identify and discuss synergies at the EU policy and strategy level, ensuring alignment of the Pollinator Action Plans with broader biodiversity and land-use frameworks.
The workshop welcomes representatives from pollinator initiatives, Core Expert Groups, Steering Groups, EC DG ENV, DG AGRI, stakeholders (such as national and regional authorities, sectors and industries – agriculture, forestry, land management), CSOs, NGOs, academia and research.

Safeguard partners are among the participants and main speakers, including Konstantin Gospodinov (IUCN), Denis Michez (IUCN SSC Wild bees SG, University of Mons), Ante Vujic (IUCN SSC Hoverflies SG, University of Novi Sad), Sara Reverté (University of Mons) and Evelyn Underwood (IEEP).
