On 17. January 2023, Safeguard partner Dr. Anikó Kovács-Hostyánszki of the Centre for Ecological Research (OK) gave a public presentation in Budapest, Hungary. The presentation titled ‘The magical world of pollinators around us’ focused on the results of an ongoing monitoring study in the bee pastures of the Hegyvidék Municipality (Budapest, XII. district).

Dr. Anikó Kovács-Hostyánszki provided an insight into the interesting world of pollinators, which play a prominent role in the seed production in flowering plants. She talked about the diversity of pollinators, their importance in many areas of our lives, the trends and the factors that threaten them, and the ways we can help preserve them. Mainly in connection with the latter, she touched upon the role of the urban environment in the protection of pollinators, i.e. how we can help pollinating insects in public areas, private gardens and balconies by providing valuable food sources and nesting opportunities. Safeguard has also been highlighted in her presentation with a brief overview.
